FIRE 🔥, MID, or TRASH 🗑️?: A Smackdown Match Review for 4/14/23

 

Xavier Woods vs L.A. Knight

 

Headline: “Xavier Woods pins L.A. Knight with a roll up by holding his tights”.

 

 

Result: Xavier Woods via pin fall

 

 

Verdict: FIRE Match 🔥 , Trash Result 🗑️

 

Editors Take: OK…First of all, I hope WWE sees that L.A. Knight is over with the fans. While I was at Wrestlemania 39, all I heard was “YEAH!” and “Let me talk to ya!”. This is the first match he’s been in since before mania. Fans love the guy. That said, I have no clue what the point is in having Woods pin Knight. Maybe it’s a part of a bigger story but right now its stupid booking.

 

 

 

Damien Priest vs Santos Escobar

 

 

Headline: “The chaotic match ended with Priest hitting Escobar with the South of Heaven. After the match Rey Mysterio saved the L.W.O. from a beat down from the Judgement Day”.

 

 

Result: Damien Priest wins via pin fall

 

Verdict: FIRE 🔥

 

Editors Take: Damien Priest is usually booked pretty strong so the fact Escobar took him the distance elevates him despite losing the match. I want to see them continue to build this storyline with the L.W.O… I love Escobar, but I think the group needs another main guy, besides Rey. I think the group is missing a heavy.

 

 

 

 

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Madcap Moss

 

 

Headline: ”Shinsuke makes quick work of Moss. Moss tried a sneak attack but gets put in an arm bar. Moss loss the match and looks like he’ll lose Emma soon enough. Also, it looks like Shinsuke is now in Karrion Kross’s crosshairs (no pun intended), but if I were Shinsuke, does that really worry me at this point? No”.

 

 

Result: Shinsuke wins via pin fall

 

 

Verdict: FIRE 🔥 (Because of Shinsuke’s return)

 

Editors Take: It’s so great to see Shinsuke perform again. I hope they have creative plans in place for him going forward. As for Riddick Moss, meh. The guy still having the name Madcap should tell you all you need to know.

 

 

 

 

Matt Riddle vs Solo Sikoa

 

 

Headline: “In a battle of two dudes who don’t like to wear shoes, Sikoa finished Riddle with the Somoan Spike. After the match, Sikoa tosses the announcers table on top of Riddle (after failing to put him through it)”.

 

 

Result: Solo Sikoa wins via pin fall

 

Verdict: FIRE 🔥

 

Editors Take: I’m so glad Riddle has been away because I’ve actually been able to enjoy him and not find him super annoying. I forgot how good he was. Sucks that he had to drop the match here.
