Fire 🔥, Mid, or Trash 🗑️?: A review for AEW Dynamite 4/5/23

Ricky Starks vs Juice Robinson

Quick Hit: Before the match could be started, free agent(?) Switchblade Jay White attacked Ricky Starks from behind leading to a beat down by the two Bullet Club members.

Result: No Contest

Verdict: FIRE 🔥

Editor’s Note: The fact that Jay White even appeared on AEW makes this segment HOT but someone of Switchblade’s calibur should have been debuted in a WAY better segment. That said, no Jay White for WWE because he is now ALL ELITE.

 

House Of Black vs Orange Cassidy and Best Friends – World Trios Championship

Quick Hit: House of Black retained the Trios titles after Chuck Taylor botched the Sole Food and got hit with the curb stomp by Buddy Matthews.

Result: House of Black retained the AEW Trios Championship via pin

Verdict: Mid

Editor’s Note: This was a good match with some good spots. The botch at the end left a bad taste in my mouth but it is what it is. Tony Kahn should be doing a lot more with the very talented House of Black besides the bullshit they’ve been doing since Malachi Black formed the group.

Riho vs Jamie Hayter – AEW Women’s Championship

Quick Hit: Jamie Hayter hit Riho with the Ripcord Hayter-aid and pinned a very game Riho for the victory

Result: Jamie Hayter retained the AEW Women’s Championship via pin

Verdict: Mid

Editor’s Note: I’ll say this about Riho, for as non-believable as she looks in the ring, she can wrestle her ass off. Jamie Hayter is just too hot right now and it’s going to take a credible threat (Britt Baker) to take the title off of her.

Sammy Guevara vs Kommander

Quick Hit: Sammy Guevara put Kommander down with a springboard cutter and the G.T.H..

Result: Sammy Guevara wins via pinfall

Verdict: FIRE 🔥

Editor’s Note: This was a really entertaining match where Kommander never seemed like a threat to beat Guevara. Love him or hate him, Sammy Guevara is not only one of the best wrestlers in AEW, he’s one of the best in the business.

 

HOOK vs Ethan Page

Quick Hit: Isiah Cassidy distracted the ref while Matt Hardy hit Ethan Page with the FTW title. HOOK then choked Page out.

Result: HOOK wins via submission

Verdict: Mid

Editor’s Note: None of the shit that Matt Hardy has been involved with since he’s joined AEW has made sense. If it weren’t for HOOK, this shit would’ve been trash.

Blackpool Combat Club vs I dont fucking know

Quick Hit: The Blackpool Combat Club beat up some enhancement talent.

Result: The Blackpool Combat Club wins via submission

Verdict: Trash 🗑️

Editor’s Note: Not sure what the point of BPCC beating the shit out of enhancement talent accomplishes.

 

The Gunns vs FTR

Quick Hit: The Gunns tried to do everything in their power to cheat to win and still failed.

Result: FTR wins the AEW Tag Team Championships via pinfall

Verdict: FIRE 🔥

Editor’s Note: This was an excellent tag match featuring one of the best tag teams in the world, FTR and a tag team that’s starting to grow on me, The Gunns. I have nothing negative to say about this one. This match was fitting for the main event.

Overall Verdict for AEW Dynamite: FIRE 🔥
