Fire 🔥, MID 😐, or Trash 🗑️: NXT :Spring Breakin’ Match Review 4/25/23

Tony D’Angelo and Stacks Lorenzo vs Pretty Deadly – Trunk Match

Headline: “Tony D’Angelo and Stacks Lorenzo turn Pretty Deadly into an Amazon delivery.”

Result: Tony D’Angelo and Stacks Lorenzo loads Pretty Deadly into the trunk

Verdict: FIRE 🔥

Editors Note: This was a solid match. The introduction of the trunk stipulation is what made this match FIRE. Neither of these teams are the type that could make the most of a no DQ match. Would have liked to see Pretty Deadly get the win here. I wonder if this is a sign of a potential call up.

Bron Breakker vs Andre Chase

Headline: “Bron sends the teacher to detention.”.

Result: Bron Breakker wins via submission

Verdict: Trash 🗑️

Editors Note: Nothing against this match but its clear that this was just a lay-up for Bron before going to the main roster.

Lyra Valkyria vs Cora Jade

Headline: “The Savior stakes her claim as one the best women in NXT”.

Result: Cora Jade wins via pinfall

Verdict: MID 😐

Editors Note: The wonky finish tarnishes a match that should have gotten a little more time.

Carmelo Hayes vs Grayson Waller – NXT Championship

Headline: “Grayson Waller unable to overcome HIM”.

Result:  Carmelo Hayes retains via pinfall

Verdict:  FIRE 🔥

Editors Note: This was a good match for two of the best young stars in NXT. I knew Hayes was excellent in the ring, but with every passing match, I become a bigger believer in Waller. Keeping the championship on Melo was the right idea.

Josh Briggs and Fallon Henley vs Brooks Jensen and Kiana James

Headline: “Love is Blind: Jensen losses his girlfriend but regains his family. ”.

Result:  Josh Briggs and Fallon Henley wins via DQ

Verdict: MID 😐

Editor’s Note: My expectations for this match were very VERY low. I was pleasantly surprised that this turned out to be a decent match. This was easily the best match in this storyline.

Oba Femi vs Oro Mensah

Headline: “The newcomer Oba Femi shows off his display of power.”.

Result:  Oba Femi wins via pinfall

Verdict: Trash 🗑️

Editors Note: Oba Femi should have destroyed his opponent, but Mensah was able to get in too much offense.

Indy Hartwell vs Tiffany Stratton vs Roxanne Perez – NXT Women’s Championship

Headline: “Indy Hartwell silences the doubters, remains the champion.”.

Result:  Indy Hartwell retains via pinfall

Verdict: FIRE 🔥

Editors Note: Going into this match, I felt that two of the three women in this match were special. Roxanne Perez and Tiffany Stratton. Indy Hartwell may not be as special, but she put on a gutsy performance in victory.

Overall Verdict for NXT Spring Breakin’: MID. And not in a bad way. This wasn’t a bad show, it was well-balanced from top to bottom.
